“We are ready to do whatever is necessary to protect Europe”

“NATO is ready to do whatever is necessary to protect Europe.” This is how forceful the Secretary General of the Alliance, Mark Rutte, responded this Wednesday to the threats made the day before by the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.

The Russian leader challenged Europe on Tuesday, assuring that “if he wanted a war with Russia and started one” his country “will be ready.” A threat issued shortly before discussing the peace plan for Ukraine in the Kremlin with the United States delegation, formed by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

“NATO is a defensive alliance. We will continue to be that way, but make no mistake: we are ready and willing to do whatever is necessary to protect our billion inhabitants and secure our territory,” Rutte warned this Wednesday in a press conference after a meeting of foreign ministers of the Alliance.
